Abergavenny Town of Sanctuary wins prestigious Nation of Sanctuary Award

On June 16th 2025 two representatives from AToS gathered at the Coal Exchange, Cardiff with other finalists of the Welsh Refugee Councils “Nation of Sanctuary 2025″ Awards. Stories of courage and community were shared, reminding us that sanctuary is built not only through policies but through people. We are proud to say that Abergavenny Town of Sanctuary won the overall Nation of Sanctuary award from 120 nominees! ”

“From sewing circles to foodbanks and horse riding projects, this small town collective is doing big work – building a true sanctuary though kindness, trust and inclusion.”

Volunteer Lindsay said “I’m lost for words. It means a lot because our volunteers work so hard and are so committed. We’re one hundred percent grassroots, doing the day to day support of refugees and sanctuary seekers.”

Sanctuary is not just a status. It’s an act. A welcome. A commitment.
